Madness Dossier Ziasudra Session Recap (10/23/2016)

Session two of Zisudra picked up where we left off last session with the team at a covert SANDMAN facility where things had gone terribly wrong.

Dungeon Grappling Kickstarter

Douglas Cole has started his Kickstarter for Dungeon Grappling., a supplement that expands grappling rules for D&D 5th Edition, Pathfinder, older versions of D&D and retroclones. These rules essentially apply the same concepts used in GURPS Martial Arts: Technical Grappling. I playtested this, it is good, and only $5.

Nonsentient Allies

The GURPS Ally (p. B36) advantage expressly allows nonsentient (IQ 0) allies (and even specifies that they have no cap on point cost relative to the PC; p. B37), and GURPS allows (more-or-less) for almost anything to be built as a "character". However, many GURPS GMs seem to find this to be pretty abusable and don't allow or use this option.

Santa Claus and Signature Gear

Sgt. Claus took signature gear for that unsat facial hair.
Signature Gear is an advantage in GURPS that gives you a piece of equipment that's part of your character's concept and gives it "plot protection"; if you lose it (without deliberately getting rid of it) you will get an opportunity to get it back. Ideally this should work for characters who aren't wealthy but have some iconic bits of gear worth more then they could afford, but sometimes there are problems with the pricing.

Fire and Forget Undead in GURPS

Over on the forum, Sombriero is wondering about how to make a power for his necromancer character. Since I needed a GURPSDay post anyway, I decided to take a look at some some options.

Madness Dossier - Some Template Observations

There are a few things I noticed with the Madness Dossier templates that seem to be worthy of comment.

Madness Dossier- Ontotectonic Projection (2014.05.03)

Ontotectonic Projection for 2014.05.03*.
In my GURPS Horror: The Madness Dossier Campaign (now code-named "Ziasudra"), I will be using the "Oil-Spot Method" of determining if reality quakes occur (Madness Dossier p. 58). This is a hands-on method using a map of key strategic reality subduction zones and will be updated in response to PC mission success or failure (with the PC's taking the role of the Control staffers who assign their missions).

Dungeon Fantasy Tone - Correction and Continuation

Last post I wrote a bit about the tone of GURPS Dungeon Fantasy, and I started with a quote from the SJGames forum by kmunoz. Unfortunately I misunderstood something he said, so I'll try to rectify that today.

The Tone of GURPS Dungeon Fantasy

Since the GURPS Dungeon Fantasy line began, there have been complaints about the tone of the writing. Many readers seem to feel that the humorous, often silly, style either misrepresents or discourages what they feel the line is capable of.

Madness Dossier- Talent Alternative Benefits

As I mentioned in my earlier post I'm using the Alternative Benefits rule from GURPS Power Ups 3: Talents p. 18. GURPS Horror: The Madness Dossier has a few talents that don't appear in that book and here are the benefits they provide in my game.

GURPS Horror: The Madness Dossier - Character Creation

Last Sunday, I officially started my first new GURPS game in over a year, using GURPS Horror: The Madness Dossier. There are seven players in this game (which is a big group for me) and this was a character making session.
